EIGHTH GRADE ESSAY CONTEST
All eighth grade public or private school students are eligible for annual essay contest. The essay subject is: "Why I will say NO to Drugs and Alcohol" and should not be more than 500 words. The Michigan F.O.P. evaluates each entry and determine winners. Prizes are awarded in United States Savings Bonds.

The prize payouts for this year are as follows:
Grand Prizes:
1st Place - $2,000.00 U.S. Savings Bond
2nd Place - $1,500.00 U.S. Savings Bond
3rd Place - $1,250.00 U.S. Savings Bond.
District Prizes: There are 11 Districts in Michigan -- each district has 5 winners:
1st Place - $1,000.00 U.S. Savings Bond
2nd Place - $ 500.00 U.S. Savings Bond
3rd Place - $ 250.00 U.S. Savings Bond
4th Place - $ 100.00 U.S. Savings Bond
5th Place - $ 50.00 U.S. Savings Bond.
For a listing of the 2011 Winners. 1st place overall winner for the State of Mi is Carlee Williamson shown below with President Harold West. Carlee was a student of Pam Godley from Clare Middle School. This is Mrs. Godley's second year in a row winning 1st place.
PEACE OFFICER OF THE YEAR
Each year the F.O.P. recognizes a member of our profession as Peace Officer of the Year. The purpose of the award is to pay tribute to the dedicated, hard working officer that not only performs the daily tasks of the job, but "does the extras" that bring credit to the individual and to law enforcement.
Nomination criteria/information is sent to local lodge secretaries the last week in March or the first week in April. The award is presented each year at the statewide conference in June. This years winner is Commander Brian Davis from Detroit. Commander Davis has displayed the utmost professionalism and bravery during a recent gunfire attack in the Detroit Police precinct building. Due to his courage, there was no loss of life of fellow officers.
HERB ADAMS AWARD - This award is intended to recognize an individual member (Active or Associate) for his/her service to their respective lodge. This years winner
is Lodge #185 President Herman E. Montville. Herman was instrumental in the development of the "Outstanding Person Award Program in Algonac, annual Bowl A thon with proceeds go to the local Goodfellows Program, Adopt a County road program among other services in the Algonac Community.
RAFFLE PROGRAM
The State Lodge sponsors a Super Raffle yearly with half the profits returned to the local lodges throughout the state. The raffle drawings begin in January and end with the Grand Prize drawing in December. A total of 800 prizes are awarded throughout the year.
LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS MICHIGAN
The Michigan F.O.P. State Lodge contributes $5,000.00 annually to the Torch Run with additional contributions coming from local lodges throughout the state. Each year the F.O.P. sponsors a running team in the Special Olympics Michigan Law Enforcement Torch Run. The Torch Run is a 700 mile, non-stop marathon from Copper Harbor to Sterling Heights. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES OF FALLEN OFFICERS
